Nach und nach haben meine Eltern es verschoenert. So wurde damals das Grundstueck an 3 Seiten (die vierte Seite bildet eine Gracht) mit einem Jaegerzaun eingezaeunt, der nun seine Dienste getan hatte und erneuert werden musste. Lange haben wir ueber eine Loesung diskutiert und uns letztendlich entschlossen, einen eigenen Zaun zu konzipieren und zu bauen. Zugegebenermassen hatte ich anfangs meine Zweifel, da Bernhard ja nun kein Handwerker ist. Tatkraeftig unterstuetzt hat uns hierbei Werner, Freund meines verstorbenen Vaters.
Das Projekt begann im Maerz 2007 mit der Faellung und Kappung viel zu gross gewordener Baeume (Thuja und Kiefern), die dem Haus und dem Garten das (Sonnen-)Licht nahmen.
Teil 2 des Projektes war die Zaunerneuerung an der Terrassenseite unseres Hauses. Um hier ein wenig mehr Privatsphaere zu bekommen, planten wir den Zaun in verschiedenen Hoehen und stimmten dies mit unseren hollaendischen Nachbarn ab.
In der ersten Oktoberwoche 2007 demontierten wir den 25 Meter langen alten Jaegerzaun. Wir setzten Kantensteine, kreierten ein Fundament für die Befestigung der Kantenpfosten in Form eines HT-Rohres, das mit schnell trocknendem Beton gefuellt 80 cm in den Boden gebracht wurde, auf das die Pfostenanker geschraubt wurden, in die letztendlich die Kanthoelzer geschraubt wurden. Rechts und links laengs der Kanthoelzer schraubte Bernhard Holz-U-Profile, die er beim Holzhaendler hatte fraesen lassen.
In diese U-Profile wurden die Nut- und Federholzplanken eingeschoben und mit gleichem U-Profil oben waagerecht abgeschlossen und die Elemente dadurch in sich stabilisiert.
Abschliessend habe ich den Zaun mit einer hochwertigen, fuer das aggressive Klima in Nordholland geeigneten Glanzlasur gestrichen und die Edelstahlkappen auf die Kanthoelzer geschraubt. Es war eine (Urlaubs-)Woche voll harter Arbeit und vieler Probleme, die es zu loesen galt, aber das Ergebnis hat für alle Muehen entschaedigt. Bernhard und Werner haben eine tolles Werk vollbracht!
In der ersten April-Woche diesen Jahres stand nun der nächste Schritt unseres Projektes an, die Zaunerneuerung (27 m) an der Frontseite unseres Hauses inklusive Erneuerung der jetzigen Toreinfahrt und Bau einer zweiten Toreinfahrt fuer eine spaetere Umgestaltung sowie Erneuerung eines 9 m Zauabschnittes zur dritten Seite unseres Hauses zur anderen hollaendischen Nachbarin hin.
Im letzten Winter und dieses Fruehjahr gab es heftige Stuerme in Nordholland, so dass wir den ersten Zaunabschnitt mit speziellen Sturmankerlaschen, die wir in Deutschland haben anfertigen lassen, und auch vorsichtshalber den zweiten Zaunabschnitt und hier vor allem die Einfahrten und Pfosten für die Torfluegel zusaetzlich noch mit Stahlseilen gesichert haben.
Fuer diesen Zaunabschnitt haben wir auch klassische Fundamente durch Erdaushub und Fuellen dieser mit schnell trocknendem Beton gewaehlt.
Es war unheimlich viel Arbeit, aber alles in allem sieht es sehr sehr schoen und wertig aus. Die Qualen und Muehen haben sich gelohnt. In unserem Picasa-Webalbum koennt Ihr das Ergebnis begutachten.
Als naechste Projekte in Planung sind:
- das Verlegen von neuen Platten in der alten und neuen Einfahrt, damit die Torfluegel auf Rollen laufend geoeffnet und geschlossen werden koennen.
- die Erneuerung der Beeteinfassungen an der Terrasse.
- das Streichen des Hauses in weiss (off-white).
Ihr seht, auch in naechster Zeit wird uns bestimmt nicht langweilig ;-).
When my parents bought the vacation house in the Netherlands in 1981, the house was 5 years old. The former owners only had the house for renting it out as much as possible and the house looked accordingly.
Step by step my parents invested a lot of money and work in it to pretting it up. A lattice fence (I am not sure if this is the correct translation for Jaegerzaun) surrounded the lot on 3 sides of the house, the backside is a natural fence (water), which had to be renewed now. We have thoroughly discussed the new fence and decided to conceive and built our own fence instead of buying ready made fence elements.
I honestly have to admit that I had my doubts at the beginning since Bernhard is not a craftsman. Werner - a friend of my deceased father - proactively supported us.
We started the project in March 2007 by felling and pollarding trees (thujas and pines) which became way to big during the past years and which took to (sun) light from the house and garden.
Part 2 of the project was the renewal of the fence on the side of our house facing the terrace. In order to have more privacy we planned the new fence in various heights and cleared this with our Dutch neighbours.
In the first week of October 2007 we detached the old 25 m (27,3 yrds) fence, we subsided curbstones and created a fundament for the scantling by putting plastic wastewater tubes 80 cm down in the ground which were filled with concrete, we screwed the anchor brackets onto the concrete and fastened the scantlings in the brackets. Bernhard srewed wooden u-profiles along the left and right sides onto the scantlings in which later the the planks with tongue and groove were slided in. Another u-profile horizontally on top was fastened with the scantlings and stabilized the entire construction.
I painted the fence with high glossy finish suitable for the aggressive climate in Northern Holland and mounted the stainless steel cover onto the scantlings. It was a (vacation) week full of work and many problems which had to be solved but the result made up for all the arduousness. Bernhard and Werner did a great job!
During the first week of April 2008, the next step of our project had to be done, the renewal of the 27 m (29,6 yrds9 fence in front of our house including the old entrance and building a second new entrance for later changes as well as a part of 9 m (9,8 yrds.) of the third side of our house facing our other Dutch neighbour.
This time, we went for a fundament by ground excavation and filling the wholes with special concrete drying within 24 hrs.
During the past winter and this spring strong winds have challenged our new fence and we decided to secure the fences by additional strong butt straps we got made at home and especially the scantlings for the wide two wing doorways which we also secured with steel wire ropes.
Again it was lots of work and a big challenge but it looks very nice. The torment and labor were worthwhile! In our Picasa website you can appraise the result of our work :-).
The next planned projects are:
- laying bricks in the doorways so that the doorwings can slide on them on rolls when opening and closing them
- renewal of the bordering of the flower beds in front of the terrasses
- paint the house in an off-white shade
You see, we will not be bored in the near future ;-).

Hallo Anja, das war ja ein echter Arbeitsurlaub, wie auf den Bilder aber zu sehen es es wirklich toll geworden und ich denke ihr wart auch Stolz auf euch nach der ganzen Arbeit das es so schön geworden ist.
